Cascade Covenant Prepares for Groundbreaking

NORTH BEND, WA (January 13, 2001) - A building permit has been approved and Cascade Covenant Church will celebrate groundbreaking on a facility in February or March, said pastor John Jenks.

Cascade Covenant spent six years in a land search process before buying property. The church has been negotiating for a building permit since 1997. The church, which has an average attendance of 125-150, plans to construct a 13,000-square-foot facility that will include a multi-purpose room that serves as a worship center for 300 on Sundays. Classroom and office space will also be part of the facility located on five acres of property. The 11-year-old church hopes to have a building ready by the end of 2001.

The Department of Church Growth and Evangelism of the Evangelical Covenant Church was actively involved in the land search process. Covenant Development Corporation provided expertise in negotiating the land deal. The Covenant's Estate Planning Office and the North Pacific Conference also contributed consulting expertise to the negotiation process and National Covenant Properties is providing the construction loan. A financial grant from Frontier Friends has also been given to the church.

"We're at a point where there is a lot of excitement because we've worked long and hard for this," Jenks said. "And our church is a classic example of how the Covenant works together with churches to get a project done. It took a year to get the deal (land acquisition) done and then it took four years to grind out a permit. We had a lot of valuable consulting experience to help walk us through it. I would've never tried to do this as an independent church."

Cascade Covenant Church is located 35 miles east of Seattle in North Bend and was parented in 1989 by Newport Covenant Church in nearby Bellevue. Jenks moved from his associate pastor position at Newport to serve as senior pastor at Cascade Covenant, which partnered with Newport Covenant in the recent planting of Creekside Covenant Church in Redmond.
