Work to Resume on Brandel Library Project

CHICAGO, IL (January 5, 2001) - The Paul and Bernice Brandel Library under construction at North Park University will be ready for fall classes despite a six-week delay in the $18-million-dollar building project, university officials said today.

Permit issues involving the City of Chicago have halted the project since Thanksgiving, according to Carl Balsam, vice president for administration and finance. Work is scheduled to begin before the end of January, Balsam said.

The university celebrated a "Topping Off" celebration during Homecoming weekend in October. Prior to the project halt, the contractor was engaged in window installation and framing on the West End wall, truss work on the library roof and steam line connections. A cul-de-sac in front of the facility on Christiana Avenue has been completed.
