CEUM Leaders Review Progress

CONGO (December 4, 2000) - New CEUM department heads and pastors met recently in Gbadolite to review progress in the leadership transition that has been under way for some time. Only two pastors were unable to participate in the leadership seminar, both because of health problems, it was reported.

Conflict between government and rebel forces continues, especially in the area around Mombessa, located south of the Congo River. Many individuals in that region remain in hiding, it was reported. The associated Press today reported that renewed fighting in southern Congo has driven more than 10,000 refugees into northern Zambia in less than two days.

CEUM President Gbuda Luyada asked for prayer for former and new CEUM leaders and for the church in general, expressing his concern that the war in Congo does not appear to be coming to an end.
