Memorial Services Set for Prof. John S. Bray
CHICAGO (December 4, 2000) - The second of two memorial services was held today for North Park Theological Seminary (NPTS) professor of church history John S. Bray who died last week at age 64.
The service was held in Anderson Chapel on the campus of North Park University. An earlier service took place Monday at Northbrook Covenant Church in Northbrook, Illinois.
An ordained pastor in the Evangelical Covenant Church (ECC), Bray served as dean of NPTS from 1993 to 1996 before stepping down for health reasons to teach. He earned a Master of Divinity degree from Fuller Theological Seminary after attending Wayne State University in Michigan. He also earned a master's degree and Ph.D. from Stanford University.
Bray was pastor of Marin Covenant Church in San Rafael, California, from 1985 to 1993. He also served Pasadena (CA) Covenant Church from 1978 to 1985 and Salina (KS) Covenant Church from 1974 to 1978.
During his career, Bray served on the faculty at Florida State University, Wayne State College in Nebraska and he taught part-time at Fuller. He also served six years on the ECC Executive Board.
Bray is survived by his wife, Eleanor, and children Elizabeth and David.
