CHICAGO (November 29, 2000) - Applications are being accepted for a mission trip next summer to Johannesburg, South Africa, sponsored by the Central Conference of the Evangelical Covenant Church.Dates for the trip are June 30 to July 14, with participants scheduled to work with the newly affiliated South Africa Chinese Covenant Church.
Deadline for applications is March 1, according to Brad Hill, mission facilitator for the Central Conference. Team leaders will include Hill, as well as Dave and Judy Dolan, regional coordinators for Chinese ministry for the Department of World Mission.
It is hoped that a team of from 10 to 12 people can be assembled to assist in a four-day English-speaking Vacation Bible School program. The team will spend time in both Johannesburg and Durban. Room and board will be provided by the church. At the conclusion of the VBS program, the team will join church members for a four-day trip to Kruger National Park.
The South Africa Chinese Covenant Church officially joined the Covenant in May 2000 after it was organized by a pair of missionaries, Frank and Ada Tuan, sent out by the Taiwan Covenant Church. There are an estimated 100,000 Chinese living in South Africa.
