McDowell Key Speaker for 2001 Triennial

CHICAGO (November 11, 2000) - Cindy Secrest McDowell will be the keynote speaker for the 2001 Triennial X Conference, it has been announced by Ruth Hill, executive director of Covenant Women Ministries.

The conference will be held August 2-5 at the Ridgecrest Conference Center in Asheville, North Carolina, featuring the theme "Keeping in Step With the Spirit."

McDowell McDowell is a respected national conference speaker and author of Amazed by Grace. Currently a staff minister for women's ministries at First Church of Christ in Wethersfield, Connecticut, she has also authored three other books: Women's Spiritual Passages, A Southern Style Christmas and Quilts From Heaven.

"We are thrilled that Cindy will be with us," said Hill. "She brings great gifts of excellent biblical teaching combined with practicality and humor. We are confident she will bless our women greatly."

McDowell holds degrees from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in Massachusetts and Furman University in South Carolina. She also studied at Wheaton Graduate School of Communications in Illinois.

"What impressed me so much when speaking with Cindy was her eagerness to develop messages on our specific theme," Hill said. "Many times speakers come prepared with their own messages that relate only vaguely to the theme of the event. Cindy, however, is seeking God's guidance and inspiration for new messages designed specifically for Triennial X."

Kathy Brawley, executive director of Covenant Bible College (CBC) in Strathmore, Alberta, will serve as the Triennial X worship team leader. Brawley teaches theology, mission, and ministry arts at CBC and will bring fine arts and piano skills to the worship team, which will also include members from various parts of the denomination.

"Kathy is well known at Covenant events, having participated on worship teams many times," said Hill. "What I admire about Kathy is her dependence on the Holy Spirit; I'm confident she's uniquely suited to lead blended worship that will lead us all into the presence of God."

Triennial X will have some new additions that will make the event special, including the music of nationally known Christian artist Kim Hill. She will lead a post-event August 4 devoted entirely to praise and worship. Kim Hill will also host a seminar, telling her own spiritual journey.

The early registration fee for Triennial X is $60, which includes all program events. Early registrations must be postmarked no later than January 15. The fee for registration between January 15 and May 31 is $70, with a fee of $80 for registrations postmarked later than May 31.
