Two Positions Open at North Park Seminary

CHICAGO, IL (November 10, 2000) - North Park Theological Seminary is accepting applications for two positions - a full-time director of the Center for Justice Ministries/ethics professor and a full-time tenure or tenure track position in theology.

Teaching responsibilities will include the core Master of Divinity and MATS course, Christian Ethics and the Church, and an elective course in the director's area of specialization as needed by the seminary curriculum. Duties begin in summer 2001.

The remaining portion of the position will address program development and direction and will have budget responsibility. The center's goal is to help Christian leaders apply ethical thinking and action in the life of the church and its ministries. Part of the responsibility includes development of compassion and justice ministries within local churches and throughout the Evangelical Covenant Church (ECC). This individual will work closely with Covenant Ministries of Benevolence and its Office of Compassion, Mercy and Justice and the ECC's Churches Planting Ministries effort.

Qualifications include a Ph. D. in ethics or theology or a D-Min. in a related field (degree in hand preferred; ABD considered), administrative and program development skills, a record of leadership in church ministries of compassion and justice, communications skills and compatibility with the theology and ethos of the Evangelical Covenant Church. Successful fund-raising experience is a plus.

Theology professor

This position involves teaching in the areas of theology and worship in the seminary's Master of Divinity and Master of Arts programs. Teaching competence in historical and systematic theology and worship is assumed. The successful candidate will also develop expertise in the theological distinctives of the Evangelical Covenant Church. The position includes teaching core courses in the seminary's masters-level programs such as theological foundations, various doctrine topics, church, liturgy and sacraments as well as elective courses in the area of specialization. Duties will begin in fall 2001.

Preference will be given to candidates with a Ph.D., ordination in the Evangelical Covenant Church, and pastoral experience. An interest in and the ability to work with a strong program of ministerial formation are required. The successful candidate will demonstrate the desire and ability to integrate academic and spiritual formation of candidates into a broad range of ministries.
