NPU Senior Sets Rushing Record

WHEATON, IL (November 7, 2000) - Darnell Rios rushed for a school-record 232 yards on 28 carries as North Park University (NPU) lost a 42-34 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin football game to host Wheaton College November 4.

Rios, a senior running back from Zion, Illinois, broke the NPU mark of 231 yards set by David Bridges in a 1983 game against Carroll College. He scored the Vikings' first touchdown on a 73-yard run and added two more scoring runs in the loss.

For the season, Rios has scored 12 touchdowns and rushed for 901 yards. For his career, he has 1,780 yards. NPU fell to 3-6 overall, 1-5 in the CCIW. The Vikings play their final game November 11, hosting Carthage College at 1 p.m.

While Rios pursues the season rushing mark of 1,061 yards set by Ed Tankersley in 1973, senior quarterback Dana Anderson will attempt to break the school career passing yardage mark of 5,160 yards by Gary Duesenberg.

Anderson threw for 180 yards on 16 of 27 passing against Wheaton. He has tossed for 4,956 yards in his career, just 204 behind Duesenberg, who finished his North Park career in 1973.
