Covenant Bible College At Full Capacity
(September 8, 2000) - A total of 169 students arrived at the three campuses of Covenant Bible College (CBC) for opening day of classes, kicking off CBC's 60th year of "equipping men and women to live as disciples of Jesus Christ."The college operates campuses in Strathmore, Alberta; Windsor, Colorado; and La Merced, Ecuador. Students come from all 11 conferences and regions of the Evangelical Covenant Church and include a student from Japan and one from Haiti. Each campus is at capacity, with 37 students in the inaugural class at La Merced.
"The start of a new college year is always tremendously exciting for us," said CBC President Neil Josephson. "To have a new group of women and men come, eager to seek God together for eight months, is an awesome opportunity and a true privilege for all of us at CBC. This year we are particularly excited and thankful for our new partnership with the Department of World Mission, which has resulted in the opening of CBC-Ecuador this fall."
This summer, work crews from all over the Covenant volunteered time and finances to ensure the campus would be ready. "I'm in awe of the faithfulness, generosity, and sacrificial giving of God's people and what God can do through that," said Todd Slechta, CBC-Ecuador's executive director. "As we welcome the first class of students to CBC-Ecuador, our whole faculty and staff is moved by God's faithfulness and goodness."
Slechta also praised the partnership with the Department of World Mission, also noting the support of Covenant Women Ministries and IPEE (the Covenant Church in Ecuador). He said that support "means that more students can cultivate a deeper love for Jesus Christ and give a very real expression to Covenant Bible College's commitment to the needs of God's people throughout the world."
Three faculty members join the CBC discipling team for the coming year. Cindy Carl, formerly program director at Cascades Camp and Conference Center, will serve at the Canadian campus. Baxter and Margie Swenson, who have been Covenant missionaries for more than 20 years in South America, are serving at CBC-Ecuador.
The Worship Center at CBC-Midwest, under the leadership of Paul Lessard and Doug Vetvick, has also begun for the 2000-2001 year with three interns. Their year of study began with the Worship in the 21st Century Conference held in August at the CBC-Midwest Campus.
Covenant Bible College is an eight-month school of discipleship. CBC has been serving the Covenant since 1941. Further information may be obtained by contacting Marla Brewster, director of development, by telephone at 403-934-6200, ext. 502, or by e-mail cbcmarla@cadvision.com.
