CHICAGO (September 8, 2000) - New staff associates have joined the Department of Christian Education & Discipleship of The Evangelical Covenant Church (ECC).Wilson and Lina Herrera, both natives of Colombia, will work with Spanish-speaking churches in the United States, promoting effective educational ministries for Hispanic churches, said Doreen Olson, executive director. They will also focus on leadership development, pastoral care and counseling.
Besides cooperating with Hispanic ECC organizations such as the Confraternity of Evangelical Covenant Churches (CIPE) and El Centro Hispano de Estudios Teologicos (CHET), Wilson and Lina will work with ECC conferences.
"They're such a gift to the denomination because of the combination of pastoral skills and their passion for Christian education," Olson said. "They have a great desire to deepen the faith of Hispanic Covenanters."
Wilson, who has a Master of Divinity degree from Northern Baptist Theological Seminary in Lombard, Illinois, served as pastor, psychologist and family counselor in Colombia. He also was a trainer with InterVarsity Christian Fellowship (IVCF) in that country. Lina is a former high school mathematics teacher.
