NPU Gallery Exhibit Continues Through September

CHICAGO (August 17, 2000) - Gayle Bradley-Johnson will exhibit paintings from two different series in North Park University's Carlson Gallery August 30 through September 29.

The paintings are created primarily with acrylic paint on canvas or board. One series features a group of small realistic still-life pieces based on the biblical Fruits of the Spirit. She uses symbols from religious, mythological, historical and cultural sources the artist saw in famous Renaissance and Medieval paintings in Italy.

The second series, Paths, is a group of acrylic paintings using personal symbols relating to paths or roads as references to a soul's spiritual journey through life. Using abstract shapes to represent the human soul and a white ribbon to represent the presence of the Holy Spirit, Bradley-Johnson creates visual parables showing the joys and struggles of her spiritual journey.

The North Park University art gallery is located in Carlson Tower on the campus at 3225 West Foster Avenue in Chicago. Hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. There is no admission charge. The Fruits of the Spirit paintings may also be viewed at www.sites.netscape.net/gvpbj/bradson.

Additional information may be obtained by calling the university's Fine Arts Department at 773-244-5630.
