CHICAGO (September 1, 2000) - North Park University and the Seminary Consortium for Urban Pastoral Education (SCUPE) will host the Stanley J. Hallett Lectureship on Community Development at North Park's campus on September 8.

Franklin I. Gamwell, Ph.D., the Shailer Mathews Professor of Religious Ethics at the University of Chicago Divinity School, will present The Summons to Community. Gamwell studies ethical and political theory in relation to Christian theology and to the philosophy of religion, working mostly with twentieth-century thinkers. His publications include The Divine Good: Modern Moral Theory and the Necessity of God and Democracy on Purpose: Justice and the Reality of God. Gamwell is also an ordained Presbyterian minister.

A 7 p.m. reception will precede Gamwell's lecture, which will begin at 7:30 p.m. The lecture will be presented in Anderson Chapel, located at 3225 West Foster Avenue in Chicago. Parking is available at the corner of Foster and Kedzie avenues.

The lectureship honors the late Stanley J. Hallett, the first director of North Park's Master of Arts in Community Development program and a former teacher of community development courses at the university.

SCUPE is a not-for-profit, interdenominational organization committed to producing creative and competent urban leaders through its leadership development programs.
