Covenant Women Return From CBC-Ecuador Campus

LA MERCED, ECUADOR (August 20, 2000) - Seventeen women representing six conferences have returned from a special short-term mission experience to help beautify the new Covenant Bible College-Ecuador campus in La Merced, located 30 minutes from Quito, as part of an inaugural trip sponsored by Covenant Women Ministries (CWM).

The 17 were divided into groups to ready the campus for its opening in September. According to Linda Griepp, who sewed window treatments for the buildings, the first half of the trip was filled with activity. Griepp's group helped make curtains, while another group landscaped the grounds. "We toured CBC - very impressive," said Griepp, who was particularly taken with the beauty of the Andes mountains and the volcano (Cotopaxi). In addition to working diligently to complete campus preparations, the group carved out time to visit a folklore ballet, a local church and the homes of some of the Evangelical Covenant Church missionaries, as well as enjoy brunch at an area hotel.

Throughout the nine-day experience, coordinator Jenell Pluim scheduled time for the team to reflect on appropriate questions that tied their work experience into their cultural and spiritual experiences. Pluim, recently commissioned a Covenant career missionary, is part of the CBC-Ecuador staff.

"The trip quickly moved beyond a service project . . . and the women were referring to it as a retreat," said Ruth Hill, CWM executive director. "The women were challenged in their walk through devotionals and reflection sessions. It was exciting to see how the Lord had given Jenell and me the same theme without our coordinating it," Hill continued. "Lives were changed in ways I had not anticipated."
