Activities Return to Normal Following Devastating Fire

THOMASTON, CT (August 8, 2000) - Activities are back on schedule at The Covenant Church following a fire that authorities believe was the work of an arsonist. Police continue to search for suspects.

The fire destroyed a residence that at one time served as a parsonage and in more recent years has been used for Christian education and other activities. It was unoccupied at the time of the fire.

The fire caused created some disruptions in summer activities, according to Pastor Tim Olsen, but a Vacation Bible School session with about 100 participants operated fairly smoothly. "The first Sunday (after the fire) we had people standing and sharing about the parsonage, it was incredible," Olsen said. "While there has been some devastation in the church, we're trusting the Lord for what's going to happen."
