Lilly Grant Awarded for Pastoral Renewal

SOUTH BEND, IN (August 8, 2000) - The Lilly Endowment has awarded a $30,000 grant to Rev. Kendall B. Dahlstrom and the Evangelical Covenant Church in South Bend, Indiana, for the purpose of pastoral renewal.

The grant is one of 30 offered to Indiana congregations through the Lilly Endowment Clergy Renewal Program, which awards up to $30,000 for a pastor's renewal and the provision of services for a church in the pastor's absence. Dahlstrom was one of 91 applicants. In 1999 – the inaugural year of the program - 23 Indiana congregations received funding through Lilly grants.

Dahlstrom has already used some of the funding to participate in the recent CHIC2K high school conference in Knoxville, Tennessee. He will also participate in the Berkshire Choral Festival and will research and explore church-related music education programs designed primarily for children and young people, among other things.
