Covenanter Named Assistant Coach at The Citadel
CHARLESTON, SC (July 16, 2000) - Sara Whitefield, a native of Shawnee Mission, Kansas, who attended Community Covenant Church, has been named assistant volleyball coach at The Citadel by Bulldog coach Wendy Anderson.
The 23-year-old Whitefield is a 1999 graduate of William Jewell College in Liberty, Missouri. An all-conference player in volleyball and basketball, she earned the coveted National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Academic All-America recognition twice in each sport.
The 6-foot-1 Whitefield also played volleyball and basketball for one year at North Park University, averaging 16 points and nearly 14 rebounds per game in basketball. She holds the school record for rebounds in a game with 24 against Carthage College.
At Shawnee Mission Northwest High School, Whitefield earned nine varsity letters, competing in track and field, volleyball and basketball. She qualified for the Kansas state track and field meet in the 100 high hurdles and the discus.
The Citadel has a Division I women's volleyball program that competes in the Southern Conference. The Bulldogs open the 2000 season at the Hampton University Tournament September 1-2 in Hampton, Virginia.
