CHICAGO (July 13, 2000) - Funeral services will be held Monday evening for Anton Davis, pastor of Calvary Covenant Church, who died Tuesday at Little Company of Mary Hospital in Evergreen Park, Illinois. The 42-year-old pastor had been in a coma after suffering a cerebral hemorrhage early Monday morning.Visitation will be from 6-7 p.m. Monday at Oakdale Covenant Church, 9440 S. Vincennes Avenue, Chicago, with the service to begin shortly thereafter. Following the service, there will be a time of fellowship at Calvary Covenant Church, 8056 S. Maplewood, Chicago.
Davis was a tentmaker pastor serving Calvary Covenant on Chicago's Southwest side. He graduated with a Master of Divinity degree from North Park Theological Seminary in 1991, serving the 100-member congregation during the 1990s following a shared pastorate with Matthew Zatkalik.
Davis served as a member of the Covenant Board of Benevolence of the Evangelical Covenant Church (ECC) from 1994 to 1997. Jim Lundeen, associate director of ECC's Compassion, Mercy and Justice (CMJ), recalled Davis' vision in CMJ's formative days. "He looked forward to the day when recognizable change in the complexion of Covenant leadership would come to pass," Lundeen said. "Anton may not have seen the fulfillment of his vision, but we can cherish the legacy," Lundeen added.
Davis is survived by his wife, Julie, and three children.
