Two Churches to Mark 100th Anniversaries

PORT ALLEGANY, PA; MENOMINEE, MI (July, 2000) - July celebrations are slated at two Evangelical Covenant churches as congregations in Michigan and Pennsylvania mark their 100th anniversaries.

Port Allegany, Pennsylvania

On July 16, the Evangelical Covenant Church of Port Allegany will hold a centennial memories picnic with Great Lakes Conference Supt. David Dahlberg giving the keynote address. The church, which celebrated its official 100th anniversary March 7, will host two more celebrations during the fall.

Noted entertainer Bob Stromberg, who attended the church as a child, will present a concert October 13 in Port Allegany and will provide entertainment at a banquet October 14. He will be the guest speaker at the worship service October 15.

During the weekend of November 3-5, North Park University Prof. David Nystrom will direct a leadership training workshop at the church.

Menominee, Michigan

The Evangelical Covenant Church of Menominee, Michigan, will begin its celebration by hosting a banquet at Bethel Lutheran Church July 15, located one block from the ECC congregation site at 1123 13th Street in Menominee. Evangelical Covenant Church President Glenn R. Palmberg will be the guest speaker for the 6 p.m. event.

Palmberg will also preach at the 9:30 a.m. worship service July 16. At 2 p.m. that day, the church will present an anniversary program. The Michigan congregation had its founding meeting April 16, 1900, in the home of one of the original church families.
