Covenant Churches Not Affected By Wildfire

RICHLAND, WA (June 29, 2000) - Although some 150,000 acres of land have been scorched by a wildfire in the area of Hanford and Richland in the state of Washington, neither of the Evangelical Covenant Church (ECC) congregations in the area have been affected, Covenant News Service has learned.

Ken Morse of Kennewick Covenant Church in nearby Kennewick said the wildfire is on the other side of town from his church. A representative from Covenant Congregational Church in Pasco, accepted into membership at the recently concluded 115th Annual Meeting of the ECC in St. Paul, said that no one from the congregation had experienced loss as of Thursday afternoon.

Although the congregations seem unaffected by the fires, they have requested prayer that the mild winds of Thursday morning do not become more dangerous. Weather forecasts had predicted gusts of some 50 miles per hour for Thursday evening.

Should conditions worsen and Covenanters in that area endangered, updated information will appear on this news site.
