Greenidge New AAMA President

CHICAGO (June 7, 2000) - Henry Greenidge, pastor of Irvington Covenant Church in Portland, Oregon, is the newly elected president of the African-American Ministers Association (AAMA) of the Evangelical Covenant Church.

Greenidge replaces Don Davenport, pastor of Community Covenant Church in Calumet Park, Illinois. Greenidge was elected during the pastors' Midwinter Conference and will officially start his term as president following the 115th Annual Meeting of the ECC in St. Paul. Affirmation of Greenidge in his new role will occur during the AAMA luncheon at that event.

The African-American Ministers Association has made many strides in connecting with African-American churches in the ECC. According to Richard Berry, director of urban expansion for the ECC's Department of Church Growth and Evangelism, the AAMA hopes to create a strategy for community development in the Christian church with connections to the ECC's Department of Compassion, Mercy and Justice.

"He's well connected," Berry said of Greenidge. "He's been around the church a long time, has done effective church ministry and understands where the average Covenant church pastor is in his journey," Berry said. "He comes with vision - he exudes vision in moving the African-American church forward."
