Covenant Bookstore Launches Online Site
CHICAGO (May 23, 2000) - Covenant Bookstore joined the e-commerce group over the weekend with the launch of its first online store as part of the Evangelical Covenant Church (ECC) website. The new site represents phase one of a plan that eventually will offer hundreds of items now available primarily by telephone ordering or by visiting the store located across from the campus of North Park University.
"This is an exciting opportunity," said Don Meyer, executive director of the ECC's Department of Communication that operates Covenant Bookstore. "It is our hope that this new technology will provide a convenient and timely means of better servicing our customers, including the many local churches, conference offices and institutions that regularly use Covenant Bookstore to fulfill their resourcing needs," Meyer added.
The new site was designed by Internet manager Joel Pearson and Heidi Griepp, a member of the Internet staff, working closely with Jeff Lennard, manager of Covenant Bookstore. It uses a service designed by Yahoo! that incorporates all of the basic services, including credit card ordering and online tracking of UPS shipments. Pull-down menus allow customers to select things like the method of shipping, including shipping costs. The number of items will expand over the next few months, based in part on customer demand.
"Overall, I'm very pleased with all the first-class features, including real-time credit card approval and billing, automatic tax and shipping calculation, and a web page that allows customers to track the status of their order," Pearson said.
A link to the online store is located on the ECC home page. The site may be accessed directly by visiting www.CovenantBookstore.com.
