North Park to Host Teacher Conference
CHICAGO (May 31, 2000) - North Park University (NPU) and the Association of Illinois Middle-Level Schools (AIMS) will present a two-day conference for teachers of students in grades 5-8 on June 22 and 23.The conference - You Gotta Reach 'Em If You Want to Teach 'Em - will feature nationally known school consultant Dr. Sherrel Bergmann and will include one and two-hour sessions on topics such as:
- Emotional Intelligence and Leadership in the Middle
- Sexual Harassment and Violence: Proactive Stances to Take
- Homework: What Research and Middle Schoolers Tell Us
- Interdisciplinary Units and State Standards
- Out of the Cave: Electives and the Young Adolescent
- Empowering the Adolescent Learner: A Look at Gifted Strategies
- Learning Styles and Inclusion for the Middle School Student
- Advisory: Connections for Middle Schoolers
- Teaming: Why, How, and More

Conference sessions will run from 7:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. each day. The conference fee of $175 includes lunch and continental breakfast. Graduate credit and administrators academy credit is available.
