CHIC 2K Filled: 500 On Waiting List
CHICAGO, IL (May 30, 2000) - There is good news and bad news regarding CHIC 2K, the Evangelical Covenant Church (ECC) high school student conference in Knoxville, Tennessee, July 22-28.
The good news, says Marti Burger, director of Youth and Family Ministries for the ECC's Department of Christian Education and Discipleship, is that 6,100 spaces have been filled for the event at the University of Tennessee - 700 more enrollees than CHIC 1997.
The bad news, at least for those non-registered people still hoping to attend the conference, is that all available spaces have been filled. Burger said there is a waiting list of more than 500 students and adults.
"The greatest gift in the world is the fact that we have so much interest in CHIC," said Burger. "We're trying to see if there is more space available. The CHIC council has looked into other options, but at this point we're full."
Burger said the ECC's Department of World Mission has lent its support by sending students of missionaries from various sites, including the Czech Republic, Ecuador and Colombia. Poland will
also be represented - one non-Covenant adult will be visiting to learn how events like CHIC are orchestrated.
