Brandel Library Construction to Begin June 1
CHICAGO (May 16, 2000) - Another hurdle for the new library and learning center building project at North Park University (NPU) has been cleared, with construction expected to begin June 1.A portion of Christiana Avenue, the new site of the Paul and Bernice Brandel Library and Learning Center, has been closed to traffic to accommodate relocation of a water line. Excavation for the basement of the facility is expected to start in about two weeks, according to Carl Balsam, NPU vice president for administration and finance.
Balsam expects the library to be completed by mid-July 2001, giving staff time to open the library for North Park students by the fall term 2001. The official groundbreaking for the facility occurred October 8, 1999.
Earlier this year, NPU President David G. Horner reported North Park surpassed the original $17 million goal for the library fund-raising phase of Faith in Our Future: The Campaign for North Park University. Additional information on the library project may be obtained by calling NPU's Office of Communications at 773-244-5750, by visiting the school's website at www.northpark.edu, or by e-mail at dlarsen@northpark.edu.
