CHET Names Delgado Dean, Vice President
BELL GARDENS, CA (May, 2000) - Centro Hispano De Estudios Teologicos (CHET) has named Edward Fraijo Delgado as dean and vice president for business affairs effective June 5.
Delgado is not new to CHET, having served on the CHET board of directors the past two years. He is currently the director of the St. Francis Center, a community outreach program of the Franciscan order of the Roman Catholic Church. He is also completing a Master of Arts degree in Intercultural Studies at Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena.
Before heading to California, Delgado worked 14 years for Compassion International, an international child development ministry based in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He attended Faith Covenant Church. He worked as area director for Compassion International in South America (1983-90, Africa (1990-94), and in Central America and the Caribbean (1994-97).
"We had been in a search process for a year to 18 months and we're ecstatic to have Delgado," said Cathy Barsotti, a CHET teacher and director of development. "He's been an administrator for some incredible programs," she said. "He's had many experiences in a variety of Latin American cultures, and he is a second generation Mexican-American, all of which are crucial for CHET," she continued. "But, with all of that, he has an incredible spirit of serving. He's just a delight to work with."
CHET is the Evangelical Covenant Church's Latino-Hispanic leadership and pastoral training center. Founded in 1989 with 30 students, it now has more than 200 students studying part-time in multiple locations. Students at CHET come from 15 different countries and 10 different denominations.
