Henderson Named ECC Interim Vice President

CHICAGO (April, 2000) - Rev. Stanley R. Henderson has accepted the appointment of the Executive Board of the Evangelical Covenant Church to serve as interim vice president of the denomination.

Henderson, who served as superintendent of the Northwest Conference from 1981 until his retirement in 1995, will take office immediately and will serve until a permanent candidate is brought to the Annual Meeting in June 2001. Most recently, Henderson has been serving as interim pastor of First Covenant Church in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

"I am thrilled that Stan Henderson is willing to step in and help us in this way," said ECC President Glenn R. Palmberg. "Stan has been very highly regarded as a leader and as a pastor throughout his ministry," Palmberg noted. "He has excellent administrative experience, including fourteen years as superintendent of the Northwest Conference, and he has been very widely loved as a pastor in California, Illinois, and now Michigan. He is a devoted servant of his Lord and of the Covenant, and I am delighted to be working with him."

Henderson, who received unanimous support from the Executive Board, had served as pastor in several California churches, including Turlock (then Beulah) Covenant Church, Redeemer Covenant in Downey, and First Covenant in Oakland. He also served First Covenant Church in Rockford, Illinois.

"I'm honored to be doing this," said Henderson of his appointment as interim vice president. "I've served as a pastor in two conferences, a superintendent in a third, and as an interim pastor in two others, so I feel that I have a little broader understanding of the larger church," he said. "Glenn Palmberg and I have worked together for many years as superintendents. It's a challenge, but I desire to be obedient to the Lord's call."
