New Cromwell Building to be Completed By November
CROMWELL, CT (March 20, 2000) - Construction is under way at Covenant Village on a three-story building that will add 65 residences to the continuing care retirement community. The units are expected to be ready for occupancy in November.
The new Pineview building will connect the Hillside apartment building already on campus with the community's skilled nursing center, Pilgrim Manor, The connection is expected to cost about $7 million and will provide seamless access to all major buildings on site. It is the first major construction project on the 34-acre campus since 1984.
Pineview will contain 15 one and two-bedroom apartments for independent living. Another 50 of the residences will accommodate the needs of individuals who are generally independent, but may need some assistance with daily activities.
An expanded woodshop, creative arts room and several administrative offices will be included in the new building designed by Lance-Boggio Architects, P.C. in Denver. General contractor for the project is Tocci Building Corp. of Woburn, Massachusetts.
"Right now, the contractors are a little ahead of schedule," said Janet Carlson, marketing director for Covenant Village of Cromwell. "We're replacing a building that was built in 1964, and once residents move into the new facility, we'll renovate the older facility to accommodate residents with dementia."
Covenant Village of Cromwell is also in the process of building another 28 patio homes for independent living. The two-bedroom, two-bathroom homes have an attached garage, a patio and generous storage areas.
Covenant Village of Cromwell is a nationally accredited not-for-profit retirement community. It is managed by Covenant Retirement Communities, part of Covenant Ministries of Benevolence of the Evangelical Covenant Church. There are currently 350 residents in four types of living situations. Carlson estimates the new projects will accommodate another 60 residents.
