North Park University Appoints Provost

CHICAGO (March 15, 2000) - Dr. Margaret J. Haefner will begin her duties as provost of North Park University July 1, according to an announcement by David G. Horner, president.

Haefner is completing service as assistant vice president for academic services on the provost's staff at Illinois State University in Bloomington, where she has worked since 1985. She also served as professor of communication and assistant to the provost at ISU, which is home to some 20,000 students and 1,400 faculty.

"I believe Margaret Haefner will quickly establish herself as a key leader in North Park's ongoing development," said Horner, adding that he expects her to bring "a high degree of energy, vision, creativity, and collaborative leadership skills" to her new position. Haefner was one of 22 applicants considered during a search process that began last summer.

Haefner earned her doctorate at age 28 from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana and holds a master's degree from the University of Illinois as well as a bachelor's degree from Northern Illinois University. She spent one year as an undergraduate at North Park (1976-77).

Haefner has been responsible for planning and establishment of the Center for the Advancement of Teaching at ISU, initiation of a year-long new-faculty orientation program, coordination of department chairperson development programs, and supervision of Instructional Technology Services.

North Park University is located on Chicago's north side with a student population of 2,300 individuals from around the globe.
