CHET 10th Anniversary Celebration Continues

LOS ANGELES, CA (October, 1999) - Celebrating its tenth anniversary this year, Centro Hispano de Estudios Teológico (CHET), daughter school of North Park University, gives thanks for the wonderful students God has brought into our community, from 15 nations of origin and 10 denominations. We celebrate how God is using each one of them in their neighborhoods, workplaces and churches to proclaim the good news of Jesus Christ.

We celebrate with Javier and Connie Carrillo, who left May 1999 for service as short-term missionaries in Argentina with CIPE (the confraternity of Spanish-speaking Covenant churches). They write that the Covenant church in Neuquen is just three years old, and yet the largest church in their "barrio." Seventy adults and 40 children/youth are gathering together for worship and witness in an area of much physical, emotional and spiritual need. They will help this church to grow before planting another new church in a different area.

We celebrate with CHET graduate, Luis Retamal, pastor of Iglesia del Pacto Grace in Chicago, who was ordained at the Covenant Annual Meeting in June 1999. We celebrate with students Angeles Coronado and Roberto Ghione as they endeavor to plant new Spanish-speaking Covenant churches in the Los Angeles area. We celebrate with graduate Miriam Lemus as she serves First Evangelical Free of Los Angeles, ministering to couples and families. We celebrate with graduates Jos_ Luis and Isabel Molina who had a full summer attending a Hispanic youth leaders' conference in Dallas, Texas, and guiding the youth of their church to prepare and lead summer worship and to participate in CHYC (Covenant Hispanic Youth Conference).

We are thankful for the way the Lord is calling our present and past students to serve Him, and how they are stepping out in faith. Please pray for all of our students and graduates.

The school will have a special celebration night on Saturday, October 23, at Pasadena Covenant Church. The evening will include a variety of Latin music and food, sharing the highlights of CHET's ministry, prizes and lots of blessings!
