CHET Celebrates 10th Anniversary

LOS ANGELES, CA (June, 1999) - This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Covenant's Hispanic training center, Centro Hispano de Estudios Teologicos, better known throughout the Covenant simply as CHET.

"We are so thankful for God's guidance and blessings these past 10 years," said Catherine M. Barsotti, director of development. "We know that we would not have made it through some of our most critical challenges without the presence of the Lord and the power of the Holy Spirit," Barsotti said, adding that "the wise counsel and consistent support of the Body of Christ" also have been key factors.

Highlights of the past decade include:

  • Over the past 10 years, 18 individuals have graduated from the Ministerial Program and some 100 persons have graduated from the Basic/lay Program (all part-time evening or weekend students).
  • Students from 15 countries of origin and 10 different denominations study together at CHET.
  • Two Ministerial Program graduates recently went to Argentina as short-term missionaries with CIPE (Confraternity of Spanish-speaking Covenant Churches).
  • Several graduates are now serving as tutors in the Basic Program.

"Our students are making a difference," Barsotti said, noting CHET has graduates and current students working in a number of churches as worship leaders, Sunday School teachers, youth workers and church council members.

An anniversary celebration is scheduled for October 23 at the Pasadena (CA) Covenant Church. Additional detail will be available later in the summer.
