CHICAGO (June, 1999) - Rev. Carol Lawson has been appointed director of staff ministry under the Department of the Ministry, concluding an extensive search conducted by the Department of the Ministry and the Department of Christian Education and Discipleship.

Carol Lawson "Carol brings excellent administrative and pastoral care skills to the position," read a joint statement released by the departments, adding that she has "a passion for the ministry opportunities and unique needs of the people who serve our churches and institutions in staff ministry. We are very excited about her willingness to assume this demanding position."

Lawson serves as director of congregational services for the Northwest Conference of the Evangelical Covenant Church (ECC). She joined the conference in 1994 as director of Christian education and assumed her present position three years later. A graduate of North Park College in 1972, she received her M.A.C.E. degree from Bethel Seminary in 1981, beginning her work career as a public school teacher. She served as consultant coordinator for the Central Conference for five years and was consecrated as an ECC commissioned staff minister in 1987. At one time a writer for David C. Cook Company and the Department of Christian Education, she also served as an adjunct professor of youth ministry at Bethel College.

Lawson is married to Bruce Lawson, associate pastor of congregational life at Bloomington Covenant Church in Minnesota. The couple has two children, Kevin who completed his sophomore year at North Park University, and Andrea, who will enter Covenant Bible College in Windsor, Colorado, in September.
