Women Ministries Director Nominated

CHICAGO (June, 1999) - Ruth Y. Hill has been nominated to serve as executive director of Covenant Women Ministries (CWM), replacing Rev. Deirdre Banks when she retires later this year. Hill is married to Rev. Brad Hill, pastor of Bellingham Evangelical Covenant Church in Bellingham, Washington.

CWM Director Nominee "We are delighted to discover the treasure God has prepared for us in Ruth Hill," said Norma Kennedy, CWM board president. "The CWM Board was looking for a woman who could lead us into the future and meet the challenges of ministering to women in the 21st Century," Kennedy said, expressing the board's confidence that the new candidate will meet and exceed those expectations.

Rev. Banks had announced plans to retire in 1998, but agreed to delay that decision until a replacement could be named. Anne Vining Pederson had been announced as the successor last year, but later withdrew her name for personal reasons.

A graduate of Seattle Pacific University with post-graduate studies at North Park University and the University of Washington, Hill and her husband served as missionaries to the Congo for 19 years. The couple has two daughters: Rachel, who is married, and Rebecca, who will enter Seattle Pacific University this fall.

"Ruth is an excellent Bible teacher and a sought-after event speaker," Kennedy said, noting she has addressed several CWM retreats. She also has served the Covenant at conference and national levels and was chair of the CWM project "Women of Zaire." Kennedy emphasized that Hill understands "that CWM must approach the genius of each generation uniquely and will seek opportunities to deepen and develop women from every corner of the Covenant."

"As a child of God, I have set before me the goal of being a woman after His own heart, so that He can say of me, 'She will do what I want her to do,'"writes Hill. "The challenge presented at Triennial to women in leadership willing to accept the next level of responsibility impacted me greatly," she added.

Hill is scheduled to assume her new responsibilities September 1.

Kennedy praised Rev. Banks' 10 years of service in the executive director's position. "We wish to express our heartfelt appreciation to Deirdre Banks who willingly extended her service one more year. Her unselfish action allowed us to work through a new search process," Kennedy said, noting that "God moved us along with wonderful efficiency while each step was carefully taken."
