Junior High JAM '99!
STRATHMORE, AB (April, 1999) - Junior High JAM '99 will be held May 21-24 at the Covenant Bible College campus in Strathmore, Alberta, Canada, and is open to all junior high students (grades 7-9) in Canada and the United States.Designed as a "high-energy" event, JAM incorporates worship, recreational activities, and seminars to encourage and challenge young people to grow in their faith. Started 10 years ago by the Evangelical Covenant Church of Canada, JAM is expected to attract several hundred students.
"Freak in the Room" is the 1999 theme, encouraging students to take a stand for Jesus. As the theme title suggests, activities for this year's JAM promise to be anything but routine. "End the Boredom, Baby!" is one of the challenges from event organizers, with scheduled "hip trips" ranging from Laser Quest to Water Park adventures.
Keynote speaker is Neil Sawyer, youth pastor for Crossroads Covenant Church in Forest Lake, Minnesota, described in the promotional literature as "one groovy cat" and a "crazy jive doctor" who, when not spreading the Word, likes to pump iron.
Students are brought together to pray, have fun, "and most of all to be encouraged in their journeys and introduce non-Christian kids to the God who loves them and cares for their every need," Jam organizers state. "It is a great event to bring kids who don't yet know the Lord."
JAM registration fees are $65 Canadian for students and $30 Canadian for youth pastors. Registration information should include full name, gender, grade, address (including city and postal code), complete telephone number, e-mail address (if available), and the name of the home church. Checks may be made payable to Junior High JAM and mailed to Junior High JAM, 28 Cambrille Crescent, Strathmore, Alberta, T1P 1M1. Additional information may be obtained by calling 403-934-9237.
