Bishop Benjamin F. Reid Dead
INGLEWOOD, CA (April, 1999) - INGLEWOOD, CA - Bishop Benjamin F. Reid, presiding bishop of the Interstate Association of the Church of God and most recently remembered as a keynote speaker at the Evangelical Covenant Church's 1999 Midwinter in Chicago, died April 11. He was buried April 18.
Bishop Reid excited the audience at February's Midwinter conference in Chicago, complimenting the Covenant for its ongoing efforts to celebrate ethnic diversity, this year's denominational theme.
President of the National Association Church of God, Bishop Reid was founder of the California School of Ministry and the First Church of God Christian School. He served 25 years as pastor of First Church of God in Inglewood.
Born in 1937 in New York City, Bishop Reid attended the University of Pittsburgh on a full-tuition debate scholarship and later entered Northern Baptist Theological Seminary and American Bible Institute, where he earned his first Doctor of Divinity degree. At the time of his death, Bishop Reid had two earned doctorates and three honorary doctorates and was a sought-after speaker at churches, national conventions, workshops, and special services.
