Seats Remain for "Sankofa" Adventure
CHICAGO (January, 1999) - A few seats are still available for the 72-hour adventure "Sankofa" sponsored by the Covenant Department of Compassion, Mercy and Justice of the Evangelical Covenant Church.
Sankofa is Swahili for "Looking backward to move forward" and represents a journey to various sites of racism and righteousness in the South, according to Harold Spooner, director of the department.
A European-style luxury bus will leave Chicago on February 4, immediately following the conclusion of the closing service of the annual ECC Midwinter Conference. The bus will return to O'Hare International Airport in Chicago at 1 p.m. February 7.
Cost for the adventure is $250 and a cross-racial partner, Spooner said, though interested individuals do not have to have a partner of another race in order to participate in the event.
Interested individuals should contact either Spooner or Jim Lundeen at the Department of Compassion, Mercy and Justice. Contact may be made by telephone by calling 773-878-8200, extensions 5056, 5850, or 5008. E-mail inquiries may be directed to jlundeen@northpark.edu.
