Congo Kids - Children's 2005-2006 Service Project

The good news is that the children in your church can help. We are launching “School Supplies for Congo Kids” once again as this years Children’s Service Project.

Imagine a place where Covenant children no longer have schools and must build them on their own. Now imagine those schools with no supplies. No chalk, no pencils, no paper, no books. This is what life was like for Covenant children in Congo. Then three years ago we launched the children’s service project, “School Supplies for Congo Kids”. The offerings from children across the Covenant brought school supplies, books, and supplies to build new schools to the children of the Congo. This helped to double the
number of children who can now attend school. Three years later the need is still great.

There are thousands of children who still cannot afford the supplies needed for school and those who are attending also need additional supplies each year. The good news is that the children in your church can help. We are launching “School Supplies for Congo Kids” once again as this years Children’s Service Project.

In the Congo schools continue to be built by children, teachers are still teaching even though they are not receiving salaries, and children are still attending classes even though they do not have school supplies. Because there is no other agency in the world who is engaged in this work the opportunity has risen once again for us to respond and reach out lovingly to the children in Congo.

Every church was sent a booklet that contains 24 stories from Congo. Before you take your offering each week, please read one of the stories. As children give each week they will be reminded of where their offering is going. I believe that as our children hear stories of the faith and character of Congo children they will be helped in their own faith development, even as they are helping others through their offerings.

Your gifts will be distributed in partnership with Covenant World Relief. All of the money received will go directly to purchase school supplies for children in Congo.

We hope to gather most of the offerings by the end of May 2006. An envelope for your offering was also mailed to every church. You may use the booklet over the full 24 weeks, or read multiple selections and use it over a shorter period. When you start is up to you. Our hope is that you will use this in combination with other projects you might have.

We know children can make a difference through their giving and their prayers and hope you will join us once again in helping the children of Congo.
