Financial Support for our SIMs
Sending people into God’s harvest field is a strategic role in the big picture of people hearing God’s Word. Missionaries not only need our prayer support but they also need our moral, communication and financial support to do ministry. The book of Acts is filled with references to a team approach to ministry. Paul recognized the important roles his partners played - churches stood with him, encouraged him, prayed for him and financially supported him and his team. As the apostle Paul reflected on the church at Philippi, he thanked God for their "partnership in the Gospel" (Philippians 1:5). He also returned to the church in Antioch to "declare all that God had done with them" (Acts 14:27).
As we consider financially supporting a missionary, consider this: He is giving me an opportunity to invest in His kingdom. What a privilege that God is allowing me to be a part of His Plan.
Your part in financially supporting your SIM can take various forms. To begin with each year, active and project SIMs are invited to submit a $300 project that will enhance their ministries. The Conference Global Ministry Chair will inform local groups about the project request in January. All project requests are also listed in the Spring inSpirit magazine as well as on the Coordinators Connection. Funds for these projects come from the conferences to which they are partnered. We have the honor of supporting women missionaries as they work to advance the kingdom of God. Each conference also gives a $25.00 birthday gift to each active, project and retired SIM that they are partnered with. Contributions can be sent to the Conference Treasurer. Throughout the year the SIM can share with their conference partner as they see the funds at work.
Your group may also desire to contribute to personal gifts or Christmas gifts for your SIM. As your group familiarizes themselves with your SIM you will discover her needs. If you and your group desire to support your SIM additionally these funds should be sent by the local CWM treasurer to CWM Office with the name of the missionary and her field of service.
What a blessing it is when people give of their substance so that His Good News can go forth. Each year SIMs share how the Project funds have enhanced their ministry. What follows are excerpts from recent notes of Sue Peterson ( Mexico) and Aleta Danforth (C.A.R.) reflecting on what God has done through the financial gifts of women. These notes speak for themselves of the wonderful opportunity we have to partner with our SIMs in God’s harvest field through our financial support.
"I have just returned from the annual Covenant Women's retreat and it was such a blessing for all that attended. My SIM monies for scholarships enabled several women to attend the retreat- two of which come from my Moms' group on Thursdays. It was their first retreat for Irma and Ana. Ana came to Christ last year and Irma invited Christ into her heart on Saturday night as we all talked in our room. Praise God! She has been attending the women's group since the fall of 2004 and really wanted to go to the retreat after she heard all about our experiences last year. The scholarship monies help them with the financial costs of the retreat." Sue Peterson
"Oh, if you could only see the needs and then the smiles when help is given. We have a 125 hospital here at our mission, and within that hospital is a nutritional rehab center. Children anywhere from 3 months to even 10 years old come and stay, for sometimes 3-4 months, to recover from horrific malnutrition (often kwashiorkor or marasmus). Their condition is often due to the aftermath of a severe disease, the most common being tuberculosis. The percentage of Fulani children with malnutrition at our center is skewed, on the high side, compared to the Fulani % of the general population, because their people are cattle herders, and they initially get tuberculosis and brucellosis from the cattle, and then it gets passed around in their little one room homes. Your gifts, ladies, makes it possible for some of these moms to hang in there to complete the disease cures. They come to the hospital, FAR from their homes and gardens, and it is very difficult to survive, as they have to pay for their food, rather than just get it from their gardens. The children who are the patients receive their food from the nutrition program, but the moms/caretakers and any siblings who are along with, have to fend for themselves. I have used your gifts, with joy, in helping moms out with peanuts and manioc flour by the bushel, money for soap and everyday market food needs like cooking oil and salt and veggies. THANK YOU for being a part of this ministry, for allowing me to be blessed in blessing others with your help!" Aleta Danforth
Specification for Bandages from the Global Ministry Handbook
For those who are taking the challenge to Rip 'N Roll, the use of polyester perma-press sheets has been given the go ahead. The most important consideration is its absorbency. While cotton and linen are the good old standbys, perma-press sheets with a bit of absorbency are fine to use. Formerly, the polyester sheets were not suitable because they were not at all absorbent.
Tell your Rip 'N Rollers that every roll is valued and their willingness to roll is appreciated. In a land where even a small cut or scratch can easily get infected, the bandages are VERY important.
Please note: the actual cost for shipping has risen over the past few months even though we have not posted the increase in our publications. It actually costs $2.50 per pound. We would appreciate any increase in revenue for shipping costs to support the bandages for Congo ministry.
