AVA Conference Coordinators
Requirements:
• Recommendation from Conference
• Complete 40-hour training @ local agency
• Complete AVA training
• Minimum of 10-hour volunteer time per month
Ministry Responsibilities:
Leadership
AVA Conference Coordinators will make up the AVA national leadership team. The team will help provide direction, set goals and assist in implementing the strategic plan for the national ministry.
Training
Conference Coordinators will conduct AVA workshops and seminars on adult domestic violence, teen domestic violence and adult survivors of sexual abuse. Conference Coordinators will conduct regional training for local AVA Advocates.
Education
Coordinators will provide educational seminars for local churches, Women Ministry groups and clergy.
Travel
Coordinators will travel to regional annual conference meetings, Women Ministry meeting/retreats, clergy cluster meetings and Ashrams.
Support
Coordinators will serve as leadership support to local advocates and liaison to the AVA national team.
Resources
Coordinators will be required to be aware of State laws on domestic violence and rape. Coordinators will maintain a library of:
1. Religious resources
• Educational literature for clergy
• Christian recovery literature for victims
• Educational and instructional literature for congregations
• AVA brochures
• List of trained clergy in their conference
• List AVA Advocates in their conference
• List of churches with AVA advocates
2. Crisis resources
• National hotlines and websites
• State hotlines and websites in their conference
AVA Local Church Advocates
Requirements:
- Recommendation from church leadership
- Complete AVA training
Recommend:
- Complete 40-hour training @ local agency or
- Experience working in domestic violence or sexual assault program
Ministry Responsibilities:
Leadership
Local church advocates will develop church ministry teams to address domestic and or sexual violence in their church and or local community. Advocates will serve as liaisons for the AVA Regional Coordinators to the local church.
Coordinate
Church advocates will coordinate all AVA workshops and seminars.
Education
Advocates will provide educational materials and local resource information for local churches.
Resources
Advocates will maintain a library of:
1. Religious resources
- Educational literature for clergy
- Christian recovery literature for victims
- Educational and instructional literature for congregations
- AVA brochures
- List of AVA Regional Coordinators in their conference
2. Crisis resources
- National hotlines and websites
- State and county hotlines and websites in their conference
Time Requirements:
- Advocates are asked to make a two-year commitment
- Minimum of six hours volunteer time per month
