Open Calls Elim Evangelical Covenant Church, Moline, IL Youth Minister Job Performance Description
Communication & Planning · Weekly meeting with Pastor to review week’s schedule, upcoming events, time for Bible study, prayer, and questions. · Monthly report provided to Ministry Leadership Team (MLT) and Youth Ministry Team · Write a monthly newsletter report for the Lamplighter with calendar of events for parents and youth. · Have a calendar of what will be happening in the six months ahead for the parents and youth. · Be willing to preach a couple of times a year and organize at least once a year a youth service.
Ministry Team · Develop and run a Youth Ministry Team (YMT) that advises, supports, and gives direction for the Youth Program. The YMT will assist in the planning and direction of the Youth Program. · Meet with Youth Ministry Team members individually (same gender) or with another leader at least once every 3 to 6 months for feedback and prayer.
Outreach (The Den and more) · Lead and direct “The Den” (Wilson Middle School after-school program on Tuesdays and Thursdays) · Personal visits or contacts with youth outside of Sunday morning and youth group. (going to a game, music, out to lunch, etc., minimum of three contacts per week.) (No one on ones with someone of the opposite gender.) · Personal visits or contacts with parent(s) (minimum of one contact per week) · Keep a visit report of contacts that are being made for your monthly report to the MLT.
Youth Group & Events · Lead and direct a weekly youth group meeting (includes fun and games, announcements, possibly music, and Bible study). · Have a minimum of one youth event per month. (i.e. Lock-in, baseball game, concert, etc.) These should be planned and publicized six months in advance (or as soon as possible for those events that cannot be planned that far ahead). · Adult leaders should be encouraged and included to lead and participate in these activities.
Faith Nurture and Discipleship · Empower, equip, train, and disciple adult leaders by meeting at least once a month for prayer and Bible study. · Attend Sunday School on a weekly basis. · Develop a Bible study for the youth that meets minimum of twice a month. · Yearly promote (and possibly attend along with) youth attending Covenant Harbor, Covenant Point, or other Bible Camp experience. Service · Promote and possibly participate (depending on number of youth attending without parent(s)) in yearly mission trip of Elim Covenant Church. · Seek avenues in which the youth can serve the looking church body and extended community. (Yard work, VBS, etc.)
Miscellaneous · Be willing to assist Pastor if needed in the visitation of older church members or attendees, if asked. (Training will be provided and this is primarily when the Pastor is unavailable.) · Be willing to assist in Sunday morning worship, if asked. (Scripture reading, prayer, announcements, music, etc.) · Be in agreement with Evangelical Covenant beliefs and doctrines.

Pastor of Young Adult and Outreach Ministries -- First Evangelical Covenant Church of Rockford, Illinois Ministry Objective The Pastor of Young Adult and Outreach Ministries will serve the congregation of First Evangelical Covenant Church by providing Christ-centered pastoral leadership for Young Adult Ministries, Neighborhood Ministries, and strategic Outreach Ministries. This Pastor will also fulfill general pastoral responsibilities as outlined below.
General This full time pastoral position involves the development, coordination and leadership of Young Adult, Cross-cultural Neighborhood, and Outreach Ministries. To fulfill this task, this person must be able to articulate a philosophy of ministry that is biblically sound and relevant to these key areas of responsibility.
The Pastor of Young Adult and Outreach Ministries is accountable to the Deacon of Adult Ministry, the Deacon of Outreach and ultimately the Senior Pastor who serves as supervisor. This Pastor will ensure that the overall ministry functions are consistent with and supportive of the vision and call of First Evangelical Covenant Church.
Responsibilities Young Adult Ministry (from post-high school to mid-30s, singles, married, with and without children)
Neighborhood Outreach 1. Work with the Deacon of Outreach to establish the following cross-cultural ministries: The Park summer outreach ministry and the school year tutoring ministry. Lead and coordinate those ministries. 2. Work with the Deacon of Family Ministries and Church Staff to enable neighborhood children to be folded into our ministries. 3. Form and lead a neighborhood outreach group that builds relationships with neighbors by going door to door to invite neighbors to First Covenant Church outreach events and to do evangelism. 4. With the Deacon of Family Ministry and Deacon of Outreach develop a vision for next steps in outreach to our neighborhood including exploring multi-cultural ministries, a neighborhood center, a ministry to teens, and an early childhood ministry. 5. Lead the planning committee for Party@the Park, our annual neighborhood outreach event.
All Church Outreach 1. Teach class on and equip people for personal evangelism. 2. Provide strategies for people to reach out to groups of friends. 3. Provide leadership for the growth of outreach oriented small groups. 4. Develop strategies for major outreach events. 5. Using our website and other media resources, work to increase our church’s presence in Rockford.
General Pastoral Responsibilities 1. Assist senior pastor in providing pastoral care to congregation. 2. Preach not less than four times a year. 3. Administer the sacraments of Baptism and Holy Communion. 4. Provide premarital counseling and leadership for weddings and funerals as directed by the senior pastor. 5. Assist in worship leadership.
Qualifications 1. Able to provide Christ-centered servant leadership. 2. Experience and skills in recruiting, mentoring and empowering others. 3. Excellent at planning, organizing and follow-through. 4. Passion for and experience in young adult, cross-cultural and outreach ministries. 5. Experience and skill in working with adult volunteers. 6. Experience and skill in preaching, teaching and pastoral care. 7. Seminary graduate. 8. Ordained or close to ordination.
Compensation This is a full-time position with health and pension benefits. Pay is based on experience.
